Edge Device Installation

Step by step guide for installing and configuring the edge device

Ardexa defines a "device" as the hardware on which the Ardexa agent is installed or deployed. Devices need to be installed by clients to complete a machine connection. These devices are typically industrial computers, small board computers, control boards, or servers.

This installation guide has been designed with plant and people safety as a primary concern. In accordance with Ardexa requirements, please confirm with your engineering team that the selected installation location for the devices — whether in the control room or inside a cabinet — is appropriate and complies with the manufacturer's requirements.

Important Safety Considerations

Key Installation Steps

Complete the following steps in order before and during installation:

Step 1 — Select Network Configuration Suitable for the Plant

Review the plant environment and identify network architecture, segmentation and any restrictions on Internet-facing connections. Confirm device interface and network configuration compatibility. Network options

Step 2 — Install Device as per Manufacturer Guidelines

Complete the physical hardware installation following the steps in the relevant Manufacturer Documentation.

Step 3 — Connect communication interfaces

Physically connect the required plant interfaces such as Ethernet, serial ports, field I/O modules needed for local service functions.

Step 4 — Apply Network configuration settings

Ardexa devices are configured to use DHCP by default. Where DHCP is not supported, configure the device with a static IP address (if not already set by Ardexa). Networking configuration

Step 5 — Confirm Network Route to Internet

Verify that the device has a valid outbound route to the internet to allow connection to the Ardexa cloud. Internet Connection

Step 6 — Confirm Network Route to Plant Equipment

Verify that the device can reach the required plant equipment (PPC, Meters, Inverters, Weather Stations, field devices, etc.) and that routing, VLANs, and firewall rules permit the necessary traffic. Troubleshooting

Manufacturer Documentation

Always verify with the original equipment manufacturer that you have the latest available version for your equipment. All versions listed here were assessed as of March 2026.
