Update the Ardexa version on multiple devices

Scenario

When the time comes for you to upgrade your agent version you may find you need to do it on multiple devices within a single workgroup. Doing this individually would be a very time consuming exercise if your workgroup contained 10s or 100s of devices. To overcome this effort we have provided a "bulk actions" area in the Ardexa Web App to allow you to take action on multiple devices simultaneously.

How To > Navigate to Device Bulk Actions

Available to Admin users only, navigate through the menus to:
ADMIN > WORKGROUP > DEVICE BULK ACTIONS
You will be presented with a set of tabs listing the various operations that can be performed en bulk.

Agent upgrade

Each tab in this view provides a different set of actions or processes. In each tab you maybe presented with up to 3 sets of accordion applets (that can open and close):
DEVICES ONLINE (blue)
  • All the devices online in your workgroup and in a state applicable to the bulk action.
DEVICES UP TO DATE (green)
  • All the devices that are online and already up to date - not applicable for the bulk action.
DEVICES OFFLINE (yellow)
  • All the devices that are offline and unavailable for the action.
  • If your workgroup has no devices that meet one of the criteria above, then that applet will not be displayed.
  • If displayed, the DEVICES UP TO DATE accordion applet will be closed until opened.
  • If displayed, the DEVICES OFFLINE accordion applet will be closed until opened.

Bulk Process Actions

PLUGIN MANAGER
Functionally the same as SEND FILES in the DEVICES area, this page enables you to send the same file to many devices simultaneously. Simply
  • Click on the devices you wish to transfer the file to
    • There is a filter at the top of the list
    • Hold SHIFT when clicking a second device to select all the devices in between.
  • Enter the destination folder name
  • Click CHOOSE FILES or drag-and-drop the files onto the drop area
  • Click START UPLOADS

Select Devices for Agent Upgrade

By default all devices are selected. To deselect all devices, simply click on the SELECT checkbox at the top of the table. Otherwise select and deselect individual devices as you want to be processed.
Only devices in the blue accordion applet can be processed
Device already upgraded and up to date will be displayed in the green accordion applet the next time the page is refreshed.
Devices Up To Date
Offline devices can be viewed in the yellow accordion applet, noted with the ban-circle
. These cannot be selected for processing.
Devices Offline cannot be bulk processed

Upgrade Selected Devices

When you are ready to execute the upgrade, simply click on the button UPGRADE SELECTED DEVICES to begin the process.

Processing

While a device is being processed, the row for that device will turn blue and the spinner
will advise it remains in a busy state.

Pre-Upgrade Checks

As the bulk process runs each device will go through a sequence of pre-upgrade checks before the upgrade can proceed. If the pre-checks fail the row will be highlighted red and you will be notified in the COMMENTS field for the corresponding device what needs to be rectified.

Errors

If errors are reported to the cloud they will be captured and provided in the NOTES field.

Success

If a device has reported it successfully updated then the device row will turn green and the version will be updated.

Troubleshooting

Device's Agent Version Does not Update, Never Resolves or The Agent Reports Offline

A device reports success in it's upgrade but the value of the device's VERSION does not update, or reverts to the previous version, or The Agent is reported offline (not the device itself).
In this scenario the device itself has encountered an internal problem while attempting the upgrade. This may occur for a number of reasons and when it does it will invariably self-correct back to the previous version.

    Permit the device some time to self correct
  2. 2.
    Check on the device's configuration to see if it has actually upgraded to the latest version
  3. 3.
    Repeat the upgrade exercise if 1) is complete and 2) has not upgraded.
  4. 4.
    If the device does not upgrade after a number of attempts please get in contact with your Ardexa Account Manager.

Select Devices for Plugin Manager Install & Upgrade

The PLUGIN MANAGER tab allows you to install or upgrade the Plugin Manager. The plugin manager is required to install and maintain your device plugins.
To install or upgrade select your online device from the blue accordion applet. Click the corresponding [Install Ardpkg] or [Upgrade Ardpkg]
